Title: Fire modelling from first principles to practical applications

Lecturer: prof. Jennifer Wen, Warwic FIRE, University of Warwick

This presentation will give an overview of the fire modelling work carried out by my group over recent years. It will start with a brief introduction about the underlying physics in fires and out modelling framework, which is based on FireFOAM within the frame of open source computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code OpenFOAM. This will be followed by various sub-models my group implemented into FireFOAM including some published combustion and radiation models with modifications, new models for soot formation and oxidation and the coupling between mass burning rate and fire in pool fire simulations. The presentation will cover key information in the development/modifications of these models, their validation and snapshots from case studies from small, medium and large-scale pool fires, upward flame spread to mechanically ventilated compartment fires with the purpose to illustrate the potential applications of the modified FireFOAM.
