INVITATION

Dresden - the total Destruction of the Historic Centre and its Recon-struction

A lecture by Dr. Sebastian Storz, Director of the Forum für Baukultur, Dresden

Monday 4th Apr 2011 at 11 a.m.
Aalto University School of Engineering
Department of Architecture
Rakentajanaukio 1 X, lecture hall A2

The historic center of Dresden was completely destroyed in 1945, close to the very end of World War II. The architectural heritage had been extinguished. Now after 66 years, the center of Dresden is still under rebuilding.

In his lecture, Sebastian Storz will not only look back at the rebuilding phase of Dresden, but also emphasizes the questions that any urban reconstruction work has to deal with. These ques-tions, linked to buildings and environments, consider factors that give a modern building or an urban environment the quality to attract the citizens.

Dr. Sebastian Storz is an architect and a historian of architecture. He is currently working at the Forum für Baukultur in Dresden. He is also a founder member of MusAA, Museo Architettura Arte. MusAA is an architectural institute installed in the earthquake area of L’Aquila (Abruzzi, Italy) by a German - Italian cooperation project as a help for future reconstruction efforts.

The lecture will be organized in cooperation with the Allan and Bo Hjelt Art Foundation and is
organized especially for the students and staff at Aalto University.
