Aalto Doctoral Programme in Engineering
A doctoral programme was established in the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture on the 1st of August 2009. With the President’s decision on the 13th of December 2010, the programme became Aalto University’s Doctoral Programme of Engineering.
All the postgraduate students of the School of Engineering belong to the doctoral programme. There are two annual application periods for the programme: one ends at the end of October and the other at the end of April.
The Director of the doctoral programme is Professor Kirsi Virrantaus who is responsible for the programme activities and for developing and coordinating the doctoral studies together with the School of Engineering. The programme also has a Planning Officer who prepares and coordinates practical matters together with the director.
The Doctoral Programme of Engineering consists of 21 research fields including architecture, urban and regional studies, civil and structural engineering, civil and environmental engineering, engineering design and production, energy and environmental technology and applied mechanics. Doctoral studies are available at all the departments of the School of Engineering: the Department of Architecture (A), the Department of Energy Technology (EN), the Department of Engineering Design and Production (K), the Department of Surveying (R), the Department of Applied Mechanics (SM), the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (Y), the Lahti Center (Lahti) and the Centre for Urban and Regional Studies (YTK).
